Cosmetic Procedures

Dr. Julie Laverdiere Beck has the highest level of continuing education for non-invasive cosmetic procedures such as botox and dermal fillers.

Botox

Botox is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. Botox can also be used to treat a TMJ disorder or reduce migraines or headaches. Botox treatment works by blocking nerve impulses to the muscles, causing them to relax and your expressions to soften. The dynamic wrinkles are then reduced. The most commonly treated areas are where muscle activity influences facial features, such as:

  • Glabellar lines (a.k.a. “elevens” or frown lines)
  • Wrinkles around the eyes, such as crow’s feet
  • Forehead creases
  • Corners of the mouth
  • A “cobblestoned” appearance to the chin

Why choose oral surgeons for botox and other cosmetic surgeries?

It is not uncommon to immediately associate Botox treatments with plastic surgeons and dermatologists but oral and maxillofacial surgeons have extensive knowledge and training on the physiology, skeletal structure, and muscle groups of the face. We have a better understanding on how the lips should look around your teeth and can determine how your smile could be affected by the procedure for an overall better appearance. Additionally, going to an oral surgeon who has treated you before for other dental and facial procedures can add a level of ease to the process.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal filler injections are a non-surgical treatment completed during an office visit. Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that are injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, smooth lines and soften creases. Many men and women choose this popular treatment as a cost-effective way to look younger without surgery or downtime. Here are a few of the commons issues dermal fillers can help address:

  • Smooth out lines around nose and mouth
  • Plump and enhance lips
  • Diminish vertical lip lines
